What's the state of Dreamwidth development like at the moment? In particular, what's it like for new or inexperienced devs?

It aims to be a supportive learning environment. I don't know the details of what's going on in Discord (where the developer discussion moved), but last I heard, there was some mentoring available there. There are also some wiki pages aimed at beginners: Beginning dev checklist, Dev Getting Started, and Dreamhack Getting Started.

We had a new person turn up a few days ago in Discord and they've been welcomed and so have their pull requests. If you're totally new to programming there's less detailed teaching around than there was a decade ago, but if you're happy to ask questions there are people happy to answer.

Things are a little chaotic right now because "move the documentation from the old and outdated Wiki that OpenID login keeps breaking on to Github where we do not have to try to keep MediaWiki working" has been on my to-do list for ages and the extremely annoyingly broken tools mean that keeping the documentation up to date is very difficult, but we do try our absolute best!
