Yet another post for Desktop Client

Hello all,

I am a student aspiring for GSOC 2010. With my interest in developing a Desktop Client for DreamWidth I would love to have some feedback from the mentors. My job is develop the app but the basic structure of the app is yet not firmly laid. It would be nice to know what kind of GUI will fit DreamWidth. How many frames are required, the functionalities of the back end of the GUI, the implementation language(JAVA is good but QT is also as good; I would love to go for QT). With this discussion, the depth of the project shall become clear. I hope the mentors shall respond back with the answer.

Thank You.

Welcome to Dreamwidth!

The key functionality would be making new posts. Other useful things would be editing posts, reading your reading page, and commenting or replying to comments. The last few entries in this community from other people looking at desktop clients may help you, and also the ones about mobile versions and an iPhone app, since they'd want roughly the same features.

Hi there, glad to see another Qt fan!! I love Qt :) I'm also doing a C++/Qt client (on my own accord, not as a part of GSOC), you can find it here: [community profile] qtxpost. (Linux-only because I don't use Windows)

I am quite fond of xJournal and its interface, but it's not being updated any more.

The one thing that drives me nuts is the very rigid hierarchy and columns in the History layout. But other than that, it's a good model for a usable client.
