CPAN GTop installation problem

I'm trying to set up the DW code on a Dreamhost PS server running Debian Etch for a friend, and I've worked my way around all my problems except my inability to install GTop. It starts off telling me it can't run gnome-config, dumps a whole lot of data, then says 'can't locate glib.h' and ten other similar files and errors out.

If I skip past that and try to populate the database (gods know if that would even work at all without GTop), it tells me it can't find ljlib and errors out.

Advice?

Sounds like you're missing the package libgnome2-dev.

Can you tell me how you're trying to install this module, what exactly you're doing? Can you show me the command line/tools you're using to build this package?

It turned out I had failed to install libgtop2-dev, which helped. However, I'm still getting errors when I run checkconfig.pl, looking for things with the ljlib.pl. I'm doing all this via command line bash, and I first start out with

sudo perl -MCPAN -e 'install Bundle::CPAN'

(or whichever module I'm working on). If that throws errors, I rm -r .cpan/build and .cpan/sources/authors, to have a clean slate, ask google some questions, and try again. If it fails again after applying google's thoughts, I cd into the right directory and try sudo Makefile.pl make make test make install.

aaaand now checkconfig.pl runs clean, but it still won't populate the database because it says it can't find ljlib.pl wtf

Or I could just be a moron and be running something under sudo that I'm not supposed to.

Hey, don't knock yourself for having issues installing one of the most complex systems I've ever run across. It's tough!

So, you got the db populated, is everything looking good now or are you still having issues getting things working? I'd love to help make sure you get up and running!

*swearing* I got as far as configuring apache, and when I load the site I get a 500 error. Log file says 'can't load perl file: mod_perl.pl'. Running mod_perl.pl directly gets me
