I feel urge to edit http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/, but I have no rights

I've been told in chat, that "the person who set up our wiki is no longer active here".

What I need is rights to edit articles.

But I also have some experience maintaining some other mediawiki installations, may be I might help with setting things right there too...

May be we will do something about it?

I knew that, but kareila can grant you edit rights IIRC. Did you ask for that, or specifically who the original admin was?

I don't know if we have anyone who is both an admin on the wiki and knows anything about it anymore, but if you can explain what needs to be done I can probably figure it out. I know users are supposed to log in with OpenID but I don't know what would be involved in account creation or granting of access.

That said, I believe kareila was suggesting that you post information of interest to developers in dw_dev rather than the wiki, so it would be more likely to be seen.

I poked around a bit and found http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Wiki_Tasklist#Bureaucrat_Tasks. That allows granting rights through group membership, and I'm pretty sure it works (or at least used to work) for OpenID accounts as well, since that's what my account was at first (it's a full account now). But if it doesn't, https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Account_creation hints that http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Special:CreateAccount should let an administrator create an account for another user.

Trying to answer all things in thread.

• I do want to edit wiki

• I do not to post documentation in dw_dev. I know something about documentation, this will not work...

• I can try do something about wiki instance (not really want to, but I can). I am no great expert, but I usually can find my way. At least add clear instructions so users and admins would know how to do basic things... If you are interested, we can discuss how do I get access to it or getting copy of it, and what exactly we are going to do to simplify everybody's life.

• If somebody of you can see page wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Special:CreateAccount, when you are logged in, can you please create account "by e-mail"... login: nataraj; e-mail: dhyan@nataraj.su . This would allow me editing.

I created your account a few days ago but apparently made a typo in your email address. I've corrected that by directly updating the wiki database, but I don't see a way to get it to resend the password email (and I'm not convinced that email providers would accept email from the wiki box anyway). Hopefully you can use Special:PasswordReset at this point, but let me know if you need me to link an openid with your wiki account or something.

I've tried to reset password for nataraj user using http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Special:PasswordReset link

but I did not get any mail to dhyan@nataraj.su . next attempt will be in 24 hours.

I guess e-mails form wiki is not delivered as they shoud :-(

The mail log said "Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname", so I've fixed that. Try it again?

A password reset email has already been sent, within the last 24 hours. To prevent abuse, only one password reset email will be sent per 24 hours.

J4UI: I do not have rights to create pages...

I tried to create http://wiki.dwscoalition.org/wiki/index.php/Development/DreamHackTricks but it did not allow me...

I will write in http://wiki.dwscoalition.org/wiki/index.php/Developer_Tips for now, then.

Ok - I can see that requires adding you to the "team" group but I have no idea how to add users to groups. I guess I can do that directly in the database too.

For now it is ok with editing... If I need to create something, I can ask for rights, or ask you to create empty page... Do not think this will be needed soon.
