I'm implementing a new-ish client (just something I can run from the FreeBSD command line, which is where I live), but still using the "Flat" interface. It's easy to parse. SSL broke the perl-based one I've used for the last many years.

Do you think this is a waste of time? I don't think this interface is going away any time soon, and the XMLRPC one is more complicated.

Actually this is a better question. A number of the styles that are available are kind of...gaudy. Is there a way to see what style a given person is using?

I don't know whether/when the flat and XMLRPC interfaces will be removed, but you should know that neither is maintained anymore (IIRC they don't support the split of friends into read and watch which was one of the first Dreamwidth changes 12 years and change ago (12??? Oh, my. Soon Dreamwidth will be old enough for its own Dreamwidth account), to give you an idea how long they have been), and that a 3rd client interface is being developed. ETA: IIRC, some of that API is already available on Dreamwidth itself.

Hello,
I'm kind of a n00b programmer, and I've been toying with the idea of creating a Mac Dreamwidth client as my first project since MacJournal seems to error out when using both the xmlrpc and flat interfaces as a post URL.
Is there an API available or some other guidelines for client building.

Late answer, just noticed this was unanswered while clearing old notification emails. Many journals have a "Style Credit" sidebar module. (Mine, for instance, reads "Style: Basic for Transmogrified by Yvonne" with "Transmogrified" a link to style customization.)
