- You may ask any dev-related question you have in a comment. (It doesn't even need to be about Dreamwidth, although if it involves a language/library/framework/database Dreamwidth doesn't use, you will probably get answers pointing that out and suggesting a better place to ask.)

i checked out the dw-free repo and tried going through the code, but it was a bit daunting to look at the whole system at once, compounded by the fact that i don't have much knowledge of or intrinsic interest in web development. are there parts of the codebase that can be tested in isolation from the command line? i feel like i would be a lot more productive diving into those, and happy to do grunt work like writing tests, refactoring code, etc., as well as fixing bugs and adding features.

I think everyone would love more back-end tests. These can be run from the command line, see https://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Dev_Testing for some more information. But the show-stopper for development these days is https://github.com/dreamwidth/dw-free/issues/2617 , and a solution (perhaps based on rshatch' idea) would be greatly appreciated, although I'm not sure that would fall under your definition of "command line".
