Sending text messages : code we want to keep?

Working on https://github.com/dreamwidth/dw-free/issues/1568 (which is only slightly related), I discovered that we have a "Send a text message" tool at /tools/textmessage.bml.

Do we do this?
If (as I think) we don't, is this,

a) Code that we want to keep functional (albeit probably bitrotted), but turned off for Dreamwidth
or
b) Code that should be removed

?

Excise it before someone thinks to use it is what I'd do.

If you go to /manage/profile and add your mobile number under "Email and Messaging", a link to use that page appears on your profile.

I would personally rip it out.

Hm. We do still keep the link visible on the profile, and nobody has reported errors/it not working ... which could be because nobody's used it in ages, but I used it a few months ago for something and it *did* seem to work still.

Maybe we should put a stats counter on it and see how often it's visited for a month or so?

We could; I was just defaulting to my "rip everything out" stance. I don't actually know if it's worth removing.

We could probably grep the Apache logs too and see quickly if anybody's hit it in the past 30 days (beyond the testing since this thread came up).
