You don't have to go home, but you can't stay in this code tour: YAPC 2013 (21 April - 7 Jun)

...and here I am with part two, for your movie-quote pleasure.

Bug 175: database column type review
Category: Misc Backend
Patch by: [staff profile] mark
Description: This was a very, very old bug opened even before the site opened for beta. (Wow!) This particular bug was opened to check through the declared database columns -- many of which were quite old, dating back to 1998 -- to see if any of them needed to be modernized from 32-bit to 64-bit. As Indiana Jones said, "It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage."

Bug 2272: Day view should make all entries accessible
Category: Misc Backend
Patch by: [staff profile] mark
Description: This increases the number of entries you can see that are all dated on a single day. Previously, if you had more than 200 entries for a single day, they couldn't all be viewed at once in the day view. As Phil said (in Groundhog Day), "It was the end of a very long day."

Bug 4789: update Net::OpenID::Consumer to latest version
Category: Configuration
Patch by: [staff profile] mark
Description: Installed the latest version of OpenID. As Dave asked, "Open the pod bay doors, HAL."

Bug 4692: Crisped: new themes
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] liv
Description: Lots of new themes for Crisped, including three from [personal profile] yaysunshine, six from [community profile] flatlanders, and eighteen from [profile] nornoriel. As (fictional) Al Capone said, "Part of a team. Teamwork... Looks, throws, catches, hustles. Part of one big team... I'm goin' out there for myself. But... I get nowhere unless the team wins."

Bug 5072: Birthday inbox notif: pm and gift links are switched around
Category: Inbox/Notifications
Patch by: [personal profile] ninetyd
Description: This fixes a bug where a couple links in the birthday notifcation emails were inadvertantly swapped. As Pepper Potts said, "I'm allowed to have plans on my birthday."

Bug 4970: Put plurk.com on the whitelist for embeds
Category: Journal contents
Suggested by: [personal profile] larissa
Patch by: [personal profile] foxfirefey
Description: As it says on the tin, embeds from plurk.com are now allowed. As Gimli said, "Of course he's twitching, he's got my axe embedded in his nervous system."

Bug 1763: Resource line shows up beside Layout in credit module with sufficiently short text/small font
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] momijizukamori
Description: Removed some obsolete CSS to make sure the resource line always shows up on the next line. As the Gold Leader said when attacking the Death Star, "We're too close!"

Bug 5061: Lefty: non-standard icons distorted in profile module
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] momijizukamori
Description: Before this fix, icons displated in the profile module weren't scaling proportionally. As Leonard Shelby said, "Memories can be distorted. They're just an interpretation, they're not a record, and they're irrelevant if you have the facts.

Bug 5068: Elegant brown theme for Leftovers
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] liv
Description: A new theme for Leftovers by [personal profile] rising. As The Stranger said to The Dude, "I like your style, Dude."

Bug 5062: Patsy: new themes
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] liv
Description: Three new themes for Patsy by [personal profile] rising. As The Dude said to The Stranger, "Well, I dig your style too, man. Got the whole cowboy thing goin'."

Bug 5066: submit a support request form needs field labels for accessibility
Category: Misc UI/Frontend
Patch by: [personal profile] deborah
Description: Improves the accessibility of the support request form, particularly for screen readers. As Dom Cobb said, "I can access your mind through your dreams."

Bug 4650: Remove or replace bootstrap.pl
Category: Site Administration
Patch by: [personal profile] shadowspar
Description: This change updates the script to do the right commands in the right order and make it easier and simpler for people who are installing their own version of the code. As Will Turner said, "My name is Will Turner, my father was Bootstrap Bill Turner. His blood runs in my veins."

Bug 4772: stats page uses oldstyle urls
Category: Misc UI/Frontend
Patch by: [personal profile] shadowspar
Description: This updates the site stats page to use the pretty DW-style userheads and links to users. As Dawn Summers said, "I just think you're freakin' out 'cause you have to fight someone prettier than you. That is the case, right?"

Bug 5027: reply by email: retries when comment posting fails (instead of dequeuing)
Category: Mobile
Patch by: [personal profile] fu
Description: If an error occurs when you reply by email, it will generate a useful error message and give it another try, instead of just giving up. As Charles Xavier said, "Don't give up on them, Erik."

Bug 5025: gmail is linebreaking comment reply by email
Category: Inbox/Notifications
Patch by: [personal profile] fu
Description: This compensates for linebreaks that Gmail puts into replies sent by email. Because Gmail likes to do its own thing, don't you know. As Grand Moff Tarkin said, "We will deal with your rebel friends soon enough."

Bug 5031: Planet Caravan - entry footer breaks with disabled comments
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] momijizukamori
Description: Fix for a styling bug when comments are turned off for a journal entry. As reboot Spock said when asked Uhura's first name, "I have no comment on the matter."

Bug 5026: Attribution cruft (On $date, blah wrote:) when replying by comment email
Category: Mobile
Patch by: [personal profile] fu
Description: Snips out a bunch of excess material from the "reply to" email that was showing up in the comment. As Tony Stark said, "Hey, Butterfingers, come here. What's all this stuff doing on top of my desk? Right there. In the garbage. All that stuff."

Bug 5034: allow more authorized emails
Category: Misc UI/Frontend
Patch by: [personal profile] fu
Description: It used to be you could authorize up to three email addresses for email posting, but now that we've got reply-by-email, we bumped that up to five. As James T. Kirk said, "These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her three- five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before."

Bug 2896: Improve/customize the messages added to emails by the spam filter
Category: Configuration
Patch by: [personal profile] alierak
Description: Changes the message displayed on emails sent to your @dreamwidth.org email address that our system thinks are spam to make it clearer what is happening. As the Monty Python waitress said, "Well, there's spam egg sausage and spam, that's not got much spam in it."

Bug 5059: Lefty: sidebar overlapping global container
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] momijizukamori
Description: The sidebar in the Lefty style was behaving badly, pushing and shoving and not sharing the window with the actual content. As Pa'u Zhaan said, "I'm a Delvian Pa'u, a priest of the ninth level. We learn to share others' pain."

Bug 5051: Lefty: unreadable/overlapping previous/next links
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] momijizukamori
Description: More chiropractic work on Lefty, so that everything's aligned properly now. As Eddie Izzard said, "I had to go see a chiropractor in New York. And they're different from osteopaths, because of the spelling. Of course, they're both very powerful figures on the Scrabble board, though."

Bug 5078: Commandline tool to look up routing paths
Category: Routing/TT
Patch by: [personal profile] exor674
Description: So say you have a url that's called in the code, somewhere, but you need to find where it is it's called from. This tool will help you track down the contorller that handles a given url. As Yoda said, "Track down this bounty hunter routing path, you must, Obi-Wan."

Bug 5082: Exponential duplication of POST arguments in DW::Request
Category: Misc Backend
Patch by: [personal profile] exor674
Description: Soooo... eight members of the DW team are sitting here in a hotel room in Austin, so I asked them what this bug was about. They assure me it's a back-end thing that only affected things behind the scenes. So, as reboot James T. Kirk said during the Kobayashi Maru test, "Yeah, don't worry about it."

Bug 4402: Strip out site messages code
Category: Modernization
Patch by: [personal profile] lucymclaughlin
Description: Some vestigial code from before the fork from LJ, which would allow for site messages to be displayed on everyone's journal. We've never used it on DW, and never plan to. And Vader said, "I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further."

Bug 3081: Allow renaming pic#xxx keywords
Category: Misc Backend
Patch by: [personal profile] purplecat
Description: This resolves a long-standing bug where you couldn't rename icons that were imported with a default name of pic#xxx. As Tony Stark said to Agent Coulson, "Whew! God, you really need a new name for that."

Bug 3376: Support: extend search to support requests
Category: Search
Patch by: [staff profile] mark
Description: This will let support volunteers conduct a full text search of previous support answers, so they can investigate requests more easily and throughly. As Aramis said, "Only the wrong words are waste of time. The right words can make a more lasting impression than a thousand of Porthos's kisses."

Bug 4839: Librarian's Dream: header has odd border when there's no bkg color
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] momijizukamori
Description: Resolves a funky border that showed up when there was no background color specified in the Librarian's Deam style. As Aragorn said, "Take some rest. These borders are well protected."

Bug 4613: Abstractia: new themes
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] momijizukamori
Description: 22 new themes for Abstractia by [profile] nornoriel. As Tony Stark said, "Following's not really my style."

Bug 4756: Planet Caravan: new themes
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] momijizukamori
Description: 19 new themes for Planet Caravan by [personal profile] rising. As Steve Rogers said, "And you're all about style, aren't you?"

Bug 5085: If template does not exist, give a scrutable error
Category: Routing/TT
Patch by: [personal profile] fu
Description: Error messages aren't much help unless they're written in English, so you can tell what the heck's going on. As Directory Fury said, "We've made some mistakes along the way. Some, very recently." And a readable error message will help us fix them.

Bug 2114: Fix unreachable entries for next/previous entry navigation when posting DOOO
Category: Journal contents
Patch by: [personal profile] kareila
Description: If entries in a personal journal were posted with the dates out of order, they were sometimes skipped when using the next & previous buttons. As Doc Brown said, "If you're gonna build a time machine into a car journal, why not do it with some style?"

Bug 3734: drop superfluous www if added before journal URL
Category: Misc Backend
Patch by: [staff profile] mark
Description: If you accidentally type "www" before your journal's url, this will strip it out and redirect you to the correct url. And as I said, "That's the end of this code tour, folks. Thanks for reading along!"

A huge cheer for [personal profile] purplecat++ for knocking off the bugbear that was 3081 (allow renaming pic#xxx keywords). It's been a thorn in peoples' sides since forever, and IIRC, the fix was a lot more involved than it would appear from the bug description.

Also thanks to [personal profile] foxfirefey++ for knocking off 4970 (put plurk.com on the whitelist for embeds) -- this showed me exactly where to get started on 4959 (whitelist gisthub gists for embedding) even if it did turn out to be too involved to deal with at the moment.

Finally, support search is a huuuuuge win :D

Ahhhh bug 3081, I'm so happy. One of my RP accounts got hit by a keyword-stripping bug and I've been too lazy to re-apply the keywords.

Also, thanks to whoever is responsible for the timestamps showing up on collapsed comments now.

Please, please, please open a Support request for the keyword stripping bug! We need more reports so we can nail down what is causing it. Specifically, did you either just change paid acct status when it happened? Also, what exactly were you doing when it kicked in? Also also, was there any page hanging, etc?

Finally, we maaaaaay be able to recover your icon keywords if you give it a bit.

[personal profile] phidari 2013-06-08 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I did open a support request (under the username synchronous). I'd just switched from free to paid when it happened, which I think I mentioned. My keywords were dug out of the database but I'm going to have to re-apply them myself :(

The good news is that you shouldn't have to actually rename the keywords -- just change the "pic###" keyword to whatever the keyword used to be, and it should catch up.

[personal profile] phidari 2013-06-08 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm aware that that's possible, but then if I want to delete and replace the icon in the future, any comments where I used the pic### keyword will revert to my default icon. Which is why I'm so glad for this bug fix.

The timestamps may have been me, in which case you're welcome (there were some comment page changes that went live that the overarching bug for has not been closed yet). And if it was me, you're welcome on behalf of who ever did it ;)

I see by your outfit that you are a cowboy
I see by your outfit you are a cowboy too
We see by our outfits that we are both cowboys
If you get an outfit you can be a cowboy too.
