Code Tour - March 2nd - March 21st (1 of 4)

Previous installments of the great Spring Bug Cleaning: Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.

Bug 4895: jquery beta + talkread + free user = delete not working
Category: Modernization
Patch by: [personal profile] fu
Description: The new javascript required certain files to be served for it to actually function. In certain circumstances (non-S2 pages on journals that couldn't use the icon browsers) some of these files weren't being served. Now they are!

Bug 4898: icon browser options not saving from a journal page
Category: Icons
Patch by: [personal profile] fu
Description: The preferences for size and display in the icon browser weren't being saved properly, which meant having to reselect them every time. Now fixed!

Bug 4899: icon browser saved prefs not being loaded correctly on journal pages
Category: Icons
Patch by: [personal profile] fu
Description: ...Aforementioned preferences also weren't being loaded properly either. Now they are.

Bug 2774: "insert image" should prompt for alternative text
Category: Misc UI/Frontend
Patch by: [personal profile] deborah
Description: Alt text is excellent. We love alt text. Now inserting an image via the RTE prompts you to enter alt text, just so you don't forget.

Bug 4906: change copyright date
Category: Frontend
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: The copyright date on the footer now reflects the fact that it is 2013.

Bug 4890: link to FAQ 207, "What is the "Description" field for?", from editicons
Category: Icons
Patch by: [personal profile] deborah
Description: On the page for editing icons, the short description of the 'Description' field now also includes a link to a longer FAQ on the subject

Bug 4892: modify "What is the "Description" field for?", FAQ 207
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [personal profile] deborah
Description: This updates the 'Description' field FAQ to include more generalized information on alternative text and why it's awesome and you should fill it out.

Bug 4891: Need FAQ in issues about OpenID problems
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: OpenID has a few quirks with DW that regular DW accounts don't have - you can't log in with an account with underscores (they have to be replaced by hyphens), and sometimes it causes problems on places where you have to click through a page (such as adult content warnings) to see content. This FAQ explains the issues and how to deal with them.

Bug 4910: need faq on image placeholders
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: This FAQ covers what image and video placeholders are, and how to enable them on your journal!

Bug 4804: No one but staff needs to read the lounge.
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [personal profile] exor674
Description: The (locked) staff comm was listed on the official DW comm list. Which was confusing, because it's locked and staff-only, and they all know where it is. It's now removed from the list.

Bug 4321: Create FAQ on video embeding
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: This FAQ covers how to upload video and audio from your computer and embed it in your journal via services such as YouTube, Vimeo, or SoundCloud

Bug 4888: FAQ #172: expand to add basic HTML issues
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: It is unfortunately very easy to do things in HTML in an entry that make your journal page appear messed up. This FAQ covers what some of them are, and how to fix or work around them.

Bug 4694: Misc. Styles: new themes
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] ninetyd
Description: Styles styles we love styles. This bug had a few themes for layouts that didn't have enough built up in backlog to warrant their own bug - 1 for Marginless by rising, 2 for Modish by rising, and 2 for Nouveau Oleanders by dancing_serpent

Bug 4314: FAQ for comment outline indicators
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: We have this awesome setting called 'Explicit Comment Hierarchy Indicators', which adds outline-style text (ie, comments 1a and 1b are both replies to comment 1, with 1a coming first) to comment headers, because visual indentation doesn't really work with a screenreader, and some people find having the text listing helpful! This FAQ goes into a little more detail about how comment hierarchy is shown, and how to enable explicit comment hierarchy indicators.

Bug 4278: Comment control FAQ should mention OpenID users
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: This updates the FAQ on comment control to explain how OpenID users are considered in the grand scale of commenting (ie, where on the list they go when you specify which comments on an entry to screen, or who gets shown CAPTCHAs, or who gets to comment)

Bug 4863: FAQ#64: clarify requirement for renaming process from journal to community
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: When you swap names on a journal and a community you control, there are certain requirements that have to be met for the rename to work. The FAQ now makes these clearer.

Bug 4872: New/Amended FAQ: Why hasn't account Z been purged yet?
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: 'Why isn't x username purged yet?' gets asked a lot. This FAQ now addresses how deletion/purging works, and how often we do it (answer: not that often)

Bug 4901: Ciel: new themes
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] ninetyd
Description: Six new themes for Ciel, four by rising and two by dancing_serpent

Bug 4884: FAQ: scheduled maintenance & downtime
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: Information on downtime and scheduled maintenance, and how we handle it! Which hopefully Google will cache somewhere.

Bug 4848: Entries FAQ doesn't mention email post
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: The 'how to post an entry' FAQ now links to the 'how to post by e-mail' FAQ

Bug 4837: FAQ#25: need to mention of imported entries or entries dated out of order
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: The reading list FAQ now mentions that entries marked 'dated out of order' or that have been imported don't show on the reading list.

Bug 4911: redo & move faq210 (delete all entries)
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: This changes the FAQ on deleting multiple entries to address deleting all entries in a journal at once (you can't) and why (so a hacker doesn't delete your whole journal).

Bug 4820: Need FAQ for imported content removal tool
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: Because of some issues with imports getting all bugged up, we had to make a tool to remove all imported content from a journal, so a clean import could be done. This FAQ covers what the tool does, where it is, and how and when to use it.

Bug 4815: Need FAQ on the custom style icon page
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: You can now have your icon page styled like your journal theme! Which is awesome! This means it needs documentation! Which is also awesome!

Bug 4912: make journal icon page/entry style display setting labels less wtf
Category: Site Layout/Navigation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: The labels in Account Settings for the display options were kind of confusing. Now they are less so.

Bug 4913: better document entry view style options
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: This better explains how the entry view display options work (because let's be honest 'entry view display options' by itself is a little confusing).

Bug 4814: Need FAQ about captcha, specifically the text captcha
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: DW uses text anti-spam CAPTCHAs, instead of image-based ones like most sites. This is because text CAPTCHAs are better for users who use screenreaders, have visual impairments, or don't have greek characters on their keyboard (thanks, reCAPTCHA. I can totally enter that scientific formula for you). Am I the only one who gets a little sad when reCAPTCHA thinks you're a robot? Because I do.

Bug 4810: Misc. FAQs: Work as user/account => Work As
Category: User documentation
Patch by: [staff profile] denise
Description: There is a nice little dropdown for changing settings on communties you run that says 'Work as: [dropdown of usernames]'. Several FAQs used the old wording of 'work as user:[dropdown]' or 'work as account: [dropdown]'. They have been rectified.

Bug 4693: Blanket: new themes
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] ninetyd
Description: Five new themes for Blanket, by rising!

Bug 4914: Ciel & Abstractia: move common image files to /commons
Category: Style System
Patch by: [personal profile] ninetyd
Description: Ciel and Abstractia have some images which are used in themes for both layouts (or for other layouts!) Having more than one copy of the same image on the server is a little silly, so they've been moved to a common folder.
cesy: "Cesy" - An old-fashioned quill and ink (Default)

[personal profile] cesy 2013-04-29 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hooray for all these bugfixes and the continuing flow of new themes.
