I poked at it a bit, so now if people wander onto it, there's less chance of confusion. I linked to the new beta page, changed the warning, confirmed what was on the Known Issues page (a link to Support, as it turns out), checked that the code status page was current (yes), made a note about the Beta Tester patches, left importing alone even though it's pretty well tested, pointed people to dw_styles, and made a note under the example content section that these were people & comms from very early beta when there was no backup on the beta server. So while it's still a bit of a mess, it's not a hazardous mess. Dom can order me about as time allows!
