I didn't code at all before I started working on Dreamwidth! There's a list of bugs suitable for beginners (I'm off to update the post in dw_dev_training right now, in fact), and Dev Getting Started on the wiki is pretty comprehensive. I'd be delighted to cheerlead if you'd like! :-)
