Yeah, the support board was created in like 2000 or so by Brad as a sort of "we'll design a better system later but let's just get this up for now and get the support questions out of my inbox", and, well. There's a Russian proverb that applies -- обе́щанного три го́да ждут, roughly, "they'll wait for three years for what was promised" -- except in this case it's been nine years longer than that. ;)
